Yorkshire & Humber NPEx Roadshow

YHAHSN supports NPEx!

On Wednesday 12 th October 2016, we co-hosted the Yorkshire and Humber NPEx Roadshow with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in the Pathology department at the Old Medical School. Over 25 delegates from laboratories across the region were in attendance.

The day was opened by Steve Box, Business Development Manager at X-Lab and Chris Dunne, Assistant Director of Informatics from The Health Informatics Service, who set the agenda for the day and introduced NPEx. Steve Box continued by elaborating further on the challenges faced within the current paper based system, to then describe the NPEx service, and how the lab to lab vision eliminates the problems of manual processing.

This was followed by presentations delivered by Mike Messenger, Deputy Director and Scientific Manager at NIHR Diagnostic Evidence Co-Operative (DEC) Leeds & Martin Fottles, Acting General Manager at Leeds Pathology Services. They articulated the challenges & future vision of diagnostics both inside & outside the laboratory.

A full demonstration of the NPEx service was given by the Deployment Coordinator at X-Lab, Abigail Marsay, who showed how connections are initiated between labs across the UK NHS.

After a successful morning, the event came to a close with lunch, networking and a very beneficial laboratory tour of the Leeds’ new Pathology lab. Steve Stephenson, Chief Biomedical Scientist in Immunology at Leeds Teaching Hospitals added “It was really encouraging to see the interest around the region in utilising NPEx to manage and monitor the exchange of samples between laboratories. As we move towards a more interconnected NHS, NPEx is a system to support pathology laboratories across the region and beyond in the delivery of their patent service”.

The NPEx team look forward to continued collaboration with you to aid pathology digitalisation!
