On 2nd June X-Lab helped to run the Laboratory System Suppliers Stakeholder Meeting in conjunction with Department of Health, NHS England, HSCIC and the Royal College of Pathologists. The event was hosted by the British In Vitro Diagnostics Association (BIVDA) in their London offices.
Since the UK Pathology IT Summit in November 2013 chaired by Rick Jones in Leeds, NHS England and RCPath have been engaging and meeting with the laboratory IT systems suppliers on a one to one basis. The meeting at BIVDA was organised to bring these major suppliers together, to give them all a common briefing on where the NHS is with NLMC adoption and identify an implementation plan. The stated objective of the workshop was to "engage systems suppliers at a strategic level ensuring we can work together in the common interest of developing the future quality and delivery of pathology informatics across the UK with NLMC as the central language core."
All major laboratory systems suppliers in the UK were in attendance and there was a strong emphasis on collaboration between suppliers towards digital integration to provide better healthcare. Steve Box and Scott Jones from X-Lab gave a presentation on the NLMC Architecture covering the software, an introduction to the Editorial Tool and the process for adding new tests and explaining test attributes. The workshop sessions explored the implications for adoption of the NLMC and the national plans for improving digital pathology integration. The engagement process links to the NPEx and NLMC Roadshow events that travelled the UK in 2014 and 2015 and which were well attended by laboratory IT managers and senior clinical staff from many NHS labs.
